A renovation and extension of a family home. This bungalow from the 50's is in a beautiful nature area in the Netherlands. Surrounded by only tree's, the original design focusses on a subtle border between outside and inside. With wide opening windows nature is drawn into the building, and the porch functions as an in-between zone. To accommodate the new family that will move in, an extension will be made to the side of the building. This extension is designed with respect to the existing home, and likewise focuses on the relation between outside inside. This creates continuous experience of natural light and the beautiful surroundings.
Interior of a Design Studio
As the driving force behind the renovation project of Phillips powerhouse into the Innovation Powerhouse, VanBerlo has a prime position in the front, where the old 8 meter high industrial hall will be transformed into high-end workspaces. Aside from just the build itself, Atelier van Berlo is also designing the interior of the office.
Cole chute office
Inside two old Col Chutes, a unique space will be created. By opening up the side walls, the spaces become accessible and can be used for inspiration sessions, brainstorm sessions or meetings. The rooms will be left raw, so that the tactility of the walls, the scent of the cole and the remnants of industry create a memorable experience.
The Experience of the Sacred
A research into the experience of the Sacred followed by a design for Rotterdams city centre. The research focused on the emotional effect of architecture. How a space can create an ineffable experience that goes beyond functionality, technicality or aesthetics.
